Police have charged a 35-year-old Dunedin man in connection with a suspicious house fire that destroyed a property in Waikaia last year.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Elswick Street shortly after midnight on 21 February 2024. Following a lengthy investigation, Gore CIB has now laid an arson charge against the accused, who is scheduled to appear in the Gore District Court on 17 December.

Detective Sergeant Brian McKinney thanked members of the public who came forward with information, saying their assistance was crucial in helping police identify the alleged offender and ensure accountability.
