The man, in his 60s, was sentenced in the Auckland District Court today.
His name has been permanently supressed to protect the identity of his victims.

The two victims were aged 11 or 12 at the time of the offending. The first victim was fostered by his son and his wife. The second was his step-granddaughter. The man tried to rape the second victim on two occasions, but failed.
‘It didn’t just happen once – this was not a momentary lapse – but part of a pattern of conduct over time,’ said Judge Evangelos Thomas at sentencing.
The man had handed himself in and confessed everything at the police station.
He was sentenced to five years and eight months prison.
