Government changes enrolment rules to ‘speed up’ election results

Government makes changes to voter enrolment news

The Government has passed new legislation aimed at ‘improving the efficiency’ and timeliness of future elections by addressing growing pressures on the electoral system.

Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said the changes respond to rising late enrolments and special votes, which have significantly delayed final vote counts in recent elections. Under the new rules, enrolment will close at midnight on the Sunday before advance voting begins, requiring voters to enrol or update their details ahead of time.

The legislation also allows for automatic enrolment updates and removes postal requirements to make it easier for voters to stay registered and contactable.

Goldsmith said the reforms strike a balance between maintaining core democratic principles and modernising how elections are run.

Changes included in the legislation are:

  • Closing enrolment 13 days before election day to reduce pressure on post-election timeframes.
  • Requiring 12 days of advance voting at each election.
  • Introducing automatic enrolment updates so the Electoral Commission can update people’s enrolment details using data from other government agencies.
  • Enabling greater use of digital communication by removing postal requirements for enrolment.
  • Creating a new offence that prohibits the provision of free food, drink or entertainment within 100 metres of a voting place while voting is taking place. It will be punishable by a fine of up to $10,000.
  • Reinstating a prisoner voting ban for prisoners sentenced to less than three years for offences committed after the Bill takes effect, which extends the current ban for prisoners sentenced to more than three years.
  • The donation threshold for reporting the names of party donors is also being adjusted from $5,000 to $6,000, to account for inflation.

The Bill makes a wide range of other changes including:

  • Enabling special vote processing to begin earlier.
  • Increasing the Electoral Commission’s board from three to up to seven members.
  • Setting a single deadline for all candidate nominations.
  • Changing party registration requirements and timeframes.
  • Providing flexibility on the contact details that can be included in promoter statements.

  1. Yet another erosion of democracy to suit large globalist political parties. This needs a legal challenge, they have not right to rule the political landscape in New Zealand. Its time we had a proper constitution in this nation, one’s that entrenched and guarantees our basic rights, including the right to vote and for smaller parties to get into office if they have the absolute numbers. None of this 5% bullshit.

  2. Let’s see what happens in USA mid term elections. Will the federal government demand a return to same-day in-person hand-counted ballots?
Will they get rid of the electronic voting machine tech created in Venezuela to rig elections?
Machines rigging fingerprint is a win of 51%. It seems to always be a win by the smallest margin.

  3. Yes, a smirking greasy politician with silver-rimmed glasses wearing
a white shirt and throat-clamping tie and haughtily labelled
as a “justice minister”can surely be trusted and relied upon ….

Enabling greater use of digital communication by removing postal requirements for enrolment.
SO THAT RESULTS CAN BE HACKED / CHANGED BY OTHER COUNTRIES AS PREVIOUSLY DONE IN THE U.S.

WILL THIS INCLUDE VOTE-VERIFICATION AFFIDAVIT TABLES?

PRISONERS ARE STILL PAYING TAXES VIA FORCED WORK, AND THIS IS TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, AS THE PRISONER CANNOT VOTE FOR THE PARTY / CANDIDATE OF HIS / HER CHOICE DUE TO THIS RESTRICTION!
The donation threshold for reporting the names of party donors is also being adjusted from $5,000 to $6,000, to account for inflation. SO, HERE A NATIONAL PARTY MP ADMITS TO INFLATION!

The Bill makes a wide range of other changes including:

Enabling special vote processing to begin earlier.SO THAT THE RESULTS CAN BE MONITIORED & CHANGED..
Increasing the Electoral Commission’s board from three to up to seven members. JUSTIFY THIS!
Setting a single deadline for all candidate nominations.
Changing party registration requirements and timeframes. TO EXCLUDE THE THIRD MINOR PARTIES THAT CHALLENGE THE STATUS QUO?
Providing flexibility on the contact details that can be included in promoter statements. ????? WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??

  5. Ah yes, but none of it really matters, does it? It’s still the uniparty that will win on the day. Two wings of the same bird, whose head is heading in whichever direction it’s told. All the minor parties just cling on to whichever wing of the bird curries thier flavour. When we realise this, none of this matters anymore. Interesting to watch from the sidelines though. Me? I’m trusting more in God’s governance and His kingdom. He holds a far more hopefilled future than what any politician can. Anyone who has eyes should read to the end of the Book. Each step they take brings Jesus and His promised return closer. Best to get ready.
