Yesterday the New Zealand government made a weak and hopeful energy announcement proposing to urgently build a new billion dollar LNG infrastructure, says the New Zealand Outdoor & Freedoms Party (NZOFP).
“Why yesterday when this concern has been hidden from the public for months if not years? And why is their announcement so poorly thought out?” the party questioned in a press release today.
The NZOFP learned at a meeting last week that New Zealand’s largest natural gas supply, the Maui gas field, is rapidly depleting and is due to be shut off. So are Pohokura, Kapuni and the other 12 gas fields due to rapid depletion of their remaining reserves.
“Ongoing natural gas supply is obviously very important for many North Island households and for industry. Indeed it affects all of us if a major source of energy is suddenly no longer available. We immediately undertook research to find government sourced documents, and we asked questions about missing information including the predicted date of closure of Maui, as this was redacted by the government from public documents.” said NZOFP leader Sue Grey.
“The very next working day, the government announced a poorly considered billion dollar proposal that raises more questions than it answers. It looks like a desperate attempt by a sleepwalking government to try to take back control of a serious issue that has been drifting for years” said Grey.
Current Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is Quoted as saying, “New Zealand was experiencing a “renewable energy boom” but swiftly declining gas supply”
“Christopher Luxon needs to come up with some answers – Here are our questions:
- “Mr Luxon, what do you mean by Swiftly in that statement you made yesterday? Why did you use this word if you did not have some dates in mind? Is it a very prescriptive word? People do not use the word Swiftly if they do not know something
- Mr Luxon – Why did you announce an 18 month target for this project – when we know these projects take 4-5 years from spade time to open the plant for operations time? Is 18 months the deadline for something you are aware of? Is it actually the “we cannot keep electricity going after that date?” Is that really what you are saying?
- Mr Luxon, the public demands a detailed explanation (with dates and numbers) explaining what is occurring to the NZ energy sector?
“Please supply this as a matter for public record and future accountability. This is not a question about magic, it is a science and numbers question. Give us the numbers and dates please. It would not be fair for you to sign a $1Bn contract if you did not have these numbers at hand.”
The USA seeks to dominate the world economically via control of energy, particularly by raising LNG prices https://sputnikglobe.com/20260209/lavrov-wests-dollar-centered-world-order-doomed-as-brics-clout-surges-1123608830.html
NZ should not be dragged into problems created by the USA.
Why is it that nearly all western leaders are such dickheads??
Because they suck – dickheads
And kiss the ring
Problems that are not mentioned.
1. The Cook 4 straight cables are beyond end of life. One has not worked for decades.
2. Wellingtons electricity network is beyond end of life.. Private enterprise has not reinvested into the network.
These items are multi billion to replace. They can not be replace without planning to keep electricity running.
Successive governments have kicked the can down the road. Its long past time a government opens that can of worms. Namly to legislate ownership back to the government. State owned enterprises, fund government spending and reduces tax. Builds hospitals and safe roads.
I realise the past government had no financial responsibility. Cut out the nonsense departments and do the things that make NZ a destination and not destitute.
Putting aside the probable garbage from globalist party trolls crapping on about “credentials” these are very well reasoned and relevant questions from NZOFP. Why is National and co obfuscating in this way? Why should anyone vote for them if they can’t be transparent about something so important.
3 good questions but unfortunately and tellingly you miss the key issue.
Two government commissioned reports by horizon and UK consultants Gas Strategies, reject the gas terminal option as prohibitively expensive.
If NZOFP and their supporters had the iq and experience required, they would know that.
Also, neither NZOFP nor their jeering supporters (what a great way to build support for a party), offer an alternative solution.
If they looked at the horizon report, they’d find 8 solutions staring back at them.
Which of course proves my point that without educated, intelligent people on board; your party is doomed to fail!
Well your attitude certainly will not help the country will it. By the way, which is the treasonous party you shill for?
Right so you’d rather vote for more of the managed decline we have seen to date from the globalist parties. BTW if they are so smart why can’t they do better and why do they need you defending them?
Labour, ACT, NZ first, and now National’s leader are self enriching, despicable crooks!
Its interesting Luxon started by coveting the success of Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew.
Unfortunately Luxon failed at the first hurdle of Lee’s successful transformation of Singapore
into an Asian tiger….. getting rid of corruption.
And now Luxon is leading the corruption.
The expensive LNG terminal won’t help Kiwis, 2 expensive reports paid for by the vwry people Luxon is now robbing blind, told Luxon that. So why is Luxon forging ahead?
Luxon saw how much Ardern and co benefitted from the $74.4b covid fraud and was obviously impressed.
So impressed he refuses to investigate the multi billion dollar covid tax fraud properly.
And now he’s sponsoring a new multi billion dollar LNG terminal tax fraud.
We need a new clever, honest, leader with big business management success,
We also need a finance minisuter who is not dishonest, obtuse, and innumerate.
An energy minister who doesn’t lie and cheat every time he opens his smarmy mouth, and
A Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs who doesn’t openly accept bribes from the Kiwi robbing Australian insurance cartel.
And a party with a board clever enough to know that legallizing marijuana has been a disaster, and that Kiwis wisely voted against it (despite a one sided Swarbrick lead nz media propoganda campaign)
Any suggestions?
But, but, climate change,,,,
This is all a controlled demolition of the West to bring all countries to a base level of equity, then the most compliant ones that cucked the hardest for the Elites and Oligarchs will be rewarded and elevated as an example
Think BIG
We also need ‘ help’ with our critical minerals and Luxton is due to visit the USA…..
Better chat with China then…..
NZOFP is 100% correct. We don’t need the massive debt to fund inefficiencies.
It requires energy to obtain energy and LNG infrastructure is economically inefficient with lower net energy than pipeline gas https://www.rt.com/business/632095-eus-war-on-physical-reality/
