New Zealand First has introduced a bill to define “woman” in law as “an adult human biological female,” aiming to protect sex-based rights and push back against “woke ideology” and “cancerous social engineering.”
Party leader Winston Peters says the move is not anti-anyone but rooted in biological fact, referencing recent legal rulings abroad and growing public concern over issues like fairness in women’s sports and access to female spaces. The bill would require all legislation to interpret “woman” and “man” based on biological sex.
According to state-funded media the party has withdrawn a previously proposed “Fair Access to Bathrooms” bill, which would have imposed fines for using bathrooms not aligned with one’s sex.
Peters explained the new bill was a broader and more effective way to address gender-related legal definitions.

I checked taxpayer-funded Radio New Zealand’s website just now – any reference to this piece of news just has a headline with minimal description. And RNZ tagged the items with “identity” and also tagged it with “politics”. But curiously, it’s not tagged with “woman”.
