NZ to launch “space squadron” amid rising global threats – Collins

Space Squadron news

Defence Minister Judith Collins has announced New Zealand will revive its World War II-era 62 Squadron as a new “space unit”, reflecting the country’s growing focus on emerging security domains.

Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Collins confirmed the squadron will relaunch in July with 15 personnel, supporting space operations already underway.

She highlighted New Zealand’s expanding $12 billion defence plan through 2029—targeting space, cyber, and undersea capabilities—while warning that satellites are becoming prime targets amid global militarisation.

Collins also emphasised international cooperation, transparency, and the importance of “a rules-based order”, while taking aim at Russian space weapon developments.

  1. Where have I seen such an insane facial expression before?
    Well, it fits.
Since lessies sunk a sonar explorer ship, NZ defense force is a farce.
    Here’s to space cadets!

  2. Hmmmmmmm🤔.

Where is the 13 Billion to address injustice to the population by the 6th Labour Government (majorly but not exclusively; all political creatures deserve culpability?

Who here is pulling the strings and who will get fabulously rich post parliament?

  3. This would actually be genuinely funny, were it not for the tragic waste of public money, it represents. Suffice to say National, are just as pathetic as Labour and just as wasteful.

  4. I do not fear the Russians or China. It’s the UK, EU, WEF and WHO and frankly our own government injecting us who concerns me most.

Be aware, most New Zealanders are on orange if not yellow alert to what is happening.

Judith Collins – You will never be PM. Hopefully, they will recognise you are too toxic and move you on.

  5. This probably means that there will be either a handful of exchange officers or a detachment from the US Space Force ‘Guardians’ here on a permanent party basis, in order to oversee the NZ effort and to insure ‘Global Rules-Based’ compliance.
In the meantime, Scotty can’t beam us up, as the Dreadnaught-Class Starship is hiding-out behind the Moon, and Musk is too busy planning to send Tesla cars to Mars…

  6. They are preparing us for war, the West needs an excuse to default on their debt because they have managed our economy’s into ground, that’s the rules based order, if all else fails go to war.

  7. You would have to be a mentally impaired to be in NZ armed forces.

NZ government and our so called allies are not worth fighting for or with.

All those americans supporting the troops. The troops are gullible fools thinking they are defending freedom.

  8. NZ defence force has proven it’s metal when the CONVID “safe and effective protocols” harmed the people of our island nation. Transparency is being honest about what this money is actually being spent on

  9. Kiwi Hillary Clinton needs to retire and piss off already.

We have zero appetite for dying in the name of globalism.

  10. For 10 years now our country has been run by complete idiots. Labour, National, it doesn’t matter. Time to throw these politicians out. Turn the beehive into a parking and let kiwis get on with their lives in peace free from the idiocy of politics and sell out corrupt politicians

  11. If anything needs to be fired off into space and never to return, it’s the Beehive with all current politicians on board. Go space cadets.

  12. This is an ideal opportunity to launch Judith Collins on a one-way fact finding mission to Mars, or better still Uranus.
