All Blacks assistant coach Scott McLeod is set to join the Wallabies as defence coach on a three-year contract, linking up with the side ahead of their 8 August Test against Japan in Les Kiss’ first match in charge.
The 53-year-old, who worked under Steve Hansen and Ian Foster at the past two Rugby World Cups, brings extensive experience from roles across New Zealand and Japan, including his most recent position with the Kubota Spears.
Born in Brisbane but raised in New Zealand, McLeod played for the Chiefs and All Blacks before moving into coaching, where he built a strong reputation at provincial, Super Rugby and international level. Rugby Australia praised his pedigree and familiarity with the Wallabies environment, while current defence coach Laurie Fisher is expected to transition into a consultancy role.
