Seymour defends Bishop’s remarks at music awards

Seymour - Bishop news

On his first day as deputy prime minister, David Seymour defended fellow minister Chris Bishop’s remarks during Stan Walker’s politically charged performance at the Aotearoa Music Awards, where Bishop commented “what a load of crap” in reaction to pro-Treaty messaging.

Musician Don McGlashan confronted Bishop, calling him a “dickhead.”

Seymour downplayed the controversy, saying ministers should still have opinions.

“Only the people watching or reading your news can decide that, and I suspect that there’ll be people who think Bish was absolutely right, people who think he was wrong, people who don’t care… each person will make up their own mind,” said Seymour.

“Just because you become a senior minister, it doesn’t mean you should stop having opinions and it might well be that, based on [what] Chris saw in that moment, he was correct. It may be that people will agree with him.”

  1. Chris Bishop and David Seymour who both talked up the jab and still do nothing about it.

Both sell outs who do not really give a shit about NZers.

Another distraction from team sport politics for the masses

    • Yes, promoted it, never took it, and hid in parliament while every day NZ’ers waited outside for an audience. Gutless treasonous cowards ALL.

  2. Stan Walker has a lovely voice, he really does. Having said that, and I don’t watch TV, the industry darlings obviously can’t take what they dish out themselves. “Tino Rangatiratanga” on a stage, with microphone, amplified and televised, the right to determination begins to look a bit warped. Kudos to Don McGlashen for being able to play a guitar and Kudos to Chris Bishop for wearing the T-shirt.

  3. So over the maorism of everyone once great in New Zealand, our sport, music, education. Just want it gone now.
