A survey of New Zealand teens found that 66% of respondents opposed the proposed social media ban for under-16s.
Conducted by Otumoetai College student Liam Howard via school networks, the survey reached 596 students, with answers submitted anonymously to prevent multiple entries.
Howard said he conducted the survey because he “didn’t see anybody talking about what youth were thinking on the subject” and “felt odd they were leaving out information on the people the ban is literally about”.
The findings are broadly in line with similar surveys conducted in the UK, US, Europe and Australia, which also showed a majority of teens opposed blanket bans on social media.
