Trump mocks ‘failing Europe’ at Davos (Video)

U.S. President Donald Trump used a highly anticipated address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos to berate European leaders, threaten sweeping tariffs, and reiterate his intention to bring Greenland under American control, portraying Europe as economically mismanaged and strategically dependent on Washington.

Speaking before global business and political elites, Trump warned he would impose a 10% tariff on all goods from eight European countries that recently deployed troops to Greenland, insisting US control of the Danish territory is a “core national security interest” and declaring the island “our territory.”

He dismissed concerns about military force with a “no comment” response and mocked European leaders as evasive and weak, claiming they avoid eye contact while relying on US trade and security guarantees.

Trump singled out French President Emmanuel Macron for ridicule, recalling past tariff threats that he said forced compliance, and questioned NATO’s reliability while boasting that the alliance would not exist without his pressure on members to raise defence spending.

Throughout the speech, Trump accused Europe of “heading in the wrong direction,” blaming its leaders for economic decline, mass migration, and social instability, while claiming the United States is “keeping the whole world afloat.” He also announced surprise contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin and an expected meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, underscoring his effort to dominate the Davos agenda with a confrontational message that left Europe cast as dependent, directionless, and increasingly irrelevant.
