Trump raises China tariffs to 125%, implements 90-day pause for other countries

US President Donald Trump has raised tariffs on Chinese imports to 125%, up from 104%, effective immediately, while authorising a 90-day pause for other countries affected by new duties.

The move follows sweeping tariffs imposed on dozens of trading partners, triggering retaliatory measures from China, the European Union, and Canada.

China raised tariffs on US goods to 84% and restricted 18 US companies, while the EU announced 25% duties on various US imports.

Global markets reacted sharply, with plunges in stock prices, oil, and US Treasury bonds.

Trump said the tariffs would remain for now and signaled more may come.

  1. For decades, China has been quietly capturing the global trade system through ports, infrastructure projects, and partnership development such as super farms here.

Who is buying farm land as central government green policy threatens inter generational farms now for sale?

Beijing is no longer being quiet, sailing its navy around Australia. It seeks to dominate the flow of goods and energy and project supremacy.

Only one man seems to have the balance of power to challenge Communist China’s superpower aspirations, their appalling track record to achieve this age, should send a chill down your spine.

Like Trump or hate him, he is better than living under a Communist China Social Credit system.

    • Yes, China is out to get you, unlike the USA, which is entirely benevolent. Remind me again, where the majority of the COVID vaccines, came from? Pretty sure it wasn’t China.

        • With all due respect the ‘Operation Warp Speed’ MRNA vaccine experiment was instigated by President Trump in 2020. President Biden then rolled it out.

          Clearly they’re both culpable.

  2. Short term struggle for a long term win….I’ll be happy to buy a toaster or jug that lasts more then the 1 year warranty

  3. So you have a trade defect, not enough saving vs investment and rampant consumerism. Tariffs can help but the approach is moronic. Moreover, income taxes need to come down or even be dropped, otherwise this is going to be hell, for US consumers.

If they think it will hurt China in the same way and to the same degree, it won’t. China has all the manufacturing and research and development infrastructure, the US said “goodbye” to when they outsourced to China. Moreover, it has very mature brands that supply the local consumer base. Lastly, it has BRICS, other markets its already trading with, on a large scale.

The US isn’t walling most of the world out, its walling itself in…..

    • Well if ya say so.
IMO the US is walling in countries that want to be rather with her than with China.
And according to latest mass return to US soil, it works on the manufactoring homefront too.

      • Well Volkswagen have already said so, stopping the latest shipment of Audi vehicles (they own Audi) to the good old USA, son. Looks like the EU have said so too, imposing reciprocal tariffs. All this re-affirms is what the world already knows, the USA is “untrustworthy”. China could do quite all out of this, just as Russia has prospered from the so called “sanctions” which have only hurt the allies, of USA. Wonder how long those friendship will last?

And now to manufacturing. It takes decades to develop a manufacturing base and guess what, you are always behind the guy who is already well in front of you, who keeps on growing their base. Just look at computer chips, who’s winning there? Hint, not the USA.

    • Don’t forget the gold. It is conservatively estimated to be over 30,000 tons. He who has the gold makes the rules.
