‘Climate Change’ Minister Simon Watts will represent New Zealand at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, next week, emphasising the country’s commitment to the Paris Agreement and the “need for global action” to protect both the economy and the wider Pacific region.
Watts said New Zealand relies on all nations taking “meaningful climate action” under clear, agreed-upon rules.
COP30 will see governments, businesses and civil society gather to shape the next phase of implementing the Paris Agreement. He said the agreement remains the world’s strongest tool for “limiting climate impacts”, and New Zealand will be working to ensure it continues to “function effectively”.
Watts will focus on strengthening cooperation to support New Zealand’s transition to a “low-emissions, climate-resilient economy” — particularly through “innovation, clean technology and investment”. Alongside formal negotiations, he will meet ministerial counterparts from multiple countries, including Australia and Pacific partners, as Wellington hopes to help secure Australia’s bid to host a Pacific-focused COP next year.
While en route to Belém, Watts will stop in São Paulo to promote New Zealand clean-tech and sustainability companies operating in Latin America. He departs New Zealand on Sunday, 16 November, and returns Friday, 21 November, travelling with Labour’s climate spokesperson Deborah Russell.

That’s not entirely true but what is true, is the solution presented is, in fact, part of the problem. QLD and NSW, for example, have both significant drops in rainfall in recent years, to the point its now a serious issue. Same can be said of Malaysia and Vietnam.
I have yet to here their scientific argument for how paying into a “carbon credit” global tax scheme fixes the weather.
