Police are appealing for information after a pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash at a Nelson intersection on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of Tasman and Weka streets at about 4pm following a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. The injured person was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police say the vehicle involved, described as a grey double-cab ute fitted with a snorkel, left the scene before emergency services arrived. Officers are making enquiries to locate both the vehicle and its driver. The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene and carried out a detailed examination.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have dashcam, CCTV, photos or video footage of the incident or the ute, to come forward.
