Police have arrested two people following the alleged armed robbery of an e-bike from two teenagers in Belmont on Auckland’s North Shore last weekend.
The incident occurred about 2.30pm on Saturday when the teenagers were riding their e-bikes along Lake Road. Police say a vehicle pulled alongside them and the male passenger allegedly demanded one of the bikes while presenting a knife.
Waitematā East Area Investigations Manager Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Williams said one of the victims was allegedly pushed off the bike and assaulted, before the offender rode away on the stolen e-bike.
Following the incident, officers carried out enquiries and were able to identify the vehicle involved. Search warrants were executed yesterday at addresses in Belmont and Ōtara, resulting in two people being taken into custody at the Ōtara property.
Police also located several other stolen items at the address. Enquiries are continuing to recover the stolen e-bike.
A 28-year-old man is due to appear in the North Shore District Court today charged with aggravated robbery and three counts of shoplifting. A 31-year-old woman is scheduled to appear tomorrow on charges including resisting police, assaulting police and failing to comply with obligations relating to a computer search.
Police say the arrests highlight effective cross-district collaboration to address offending that causes harm in the community.
