Bradman ‘Baggy Green’ sells for record price at auction

A rare baggy green cap worn by Sir Don Bradman during Australia’s 1947–48 Test series against India has sold for A$460,000 at auction, setting a new record for a cricket cap.

Bradman gifted the cap to Indian cricketer Sriranga Wasudev Sohoni, whose family preserved it privately for 75 years, with the item never previously displayed publicly.

One of only 11 Bradman-worn baggy greens known to exist, the cap is inscribed with both players’ names and remains in good condition.

Sold to an anonymous buyer and destined for display in an Australian museum, the cap’s final price rose to A$535,900 after buyer’s premium, surpassing the previous record set in 2024.

The series marked Bradman’s final home Tests, during which he scored 715 runs at an average of 178.75, while also coinciding with India’s first international tour as an independent nation.
