Crystal Palace have lost their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against Uefa’s decision to demote them from the Europa League to the Conference League for breaching multi-club ownership rules.
Uefa ruled that former co-owner John Textor, who held a 43% stake in Palace until June and is the majority owner of Lyon, still had decisive influence over both clubs at the assessment date.
Palace, who qualified for the Europa League by winning last season’s FA Cup, missed a March 1 deadline to restructure ownership and argued they were treated unfairly compared to Lyon and Nottingham Forest—claims Cas dismissed.
Nottingham Forest now take Palace’s Europa League spot, while Palace will face Fredrikstad or Midtjylland in the Conference League play-offs later this month.
