Former England rugby captain Lewis Moody has revealed he has been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND), just two weeks after learning of the incurable condition that also claimed fellow players Doddie Weir and Rob Burrow.
The 47-year-old World Cup winner, nicknamed “Mad Dog” for his fearless play, said he is focusing on his family and living in the moment while coming to terms with the news. Moody described the emotional pain of telling his wife and teenage sons, saying it was “the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do.”
Despite minor symptoms so far, he acknowledged the disease’s devastating prognosis, with most patients dying within two years.
Tributes and support have poured in from the rugby community, with former teammates launching a fundraising page as Moody thanked fans for their support.
Very sad did he take the Covid vaxination.
