Hurricanes edge Crusaders to claim top spot

The Hurricanes moved to the top of the Super Rugby Pacific standings after holding off the Crusaders 38-31 in a high-paced clash.

The visitors built a commanding first-half lead through tries to Du’Plessis Kirifi, Josh Moorby and Cam Roigard before withstanding a late Crusaders fightback.

Leicester Fainga’anuku opened the scoring for the home side, while replacement Rivez Reihana sparked the defending champions in the second half as they closed the margin to a converted try. Fehi Fineanganofo’s 15th try of the season proved crucial for the Hurricanes, who survived a tense finish after Dom Gardiner crossed late for the Crusaders.

The result lifts the Hurricanes above the Chiefs on the ladder while boosting their hopes of securing home advantage through the finals.
