Michael Carrick marked his return as Manchester United caretaker manager with a statement victory, as second-half goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu sealed a 2–0 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford and dealt a significant blow to City’s Premier League title challenge.
United dominated long spells, forcing a series of saves from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before finally breaking through when Bruno Fernandes led a counter-attack finished by Mbeumo, with Dorgu adding a second soon after.
City struggled to respond, with Erling Haaland again subdued, while United saw further chances go close as the crowd revelled in the turnaround.
The defeat extended City’s winless league run to four matches and boosted Arsenal’s title position, while United briefly climbed into the top four as Carrick celebrated an emphatic start to his tenure.
