NZ Cricket Chief Executive Scott Weenink to step down

Scott Weenik resigns as NZ Cricket CEO

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Scott Weenink will resign at the end of January after months of escalating tension over the future direction of the game and his leadership.

Weenink cited fundamental differences with major associations and the players’ association, particularly around long-term priorities and the role of T20 cricket, saying continued leadership without stakeholder support would risk instability.

His departure follows prolonged governance turmoil, including mediation efforts, internal letters warning the board the relationship had become “irretrievable,” and disputes over proposals for a new domestic T20 competition.

While defending his tenure and pointing to strong financial results and on-field success, Weenink’s exit leaves NZ Cricket searching for new leadership amid unresolved questions about the structure of the domestic game.
