Scott Hastings, regarded as one of Scotland’s finest rugby union players, has died at the age of 61 following complications linked to cancer treatment.
Hastings, who formed part of Scotland’s famous 1990 Five Nations Grand Slam-winning side alongside brother Gavin Hastings, had revealed in 2022 that he was battling incurable non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
His children, Corey and Kerry-Anne, confirmed he passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, which also marked the birthday of his late wife Jenny.
Hastings earned 65 caps for Scotland, toured twice with the British & Irish Lions and played club rugby for Watsonians RFC in Edinburgh. After retiring in 1999, he became a respected rugby commentator and charity advocate, supporting causes including mental health and motor neurone disease. He was inducted into the Scottish Rugby Hall of Fame last year.
Hastings was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2022.
