Black Caps bowler Tim Southee received an official reprimand for damaging a hand sanitiser dispenser during an outburst at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
The incident, occurring in the 18th over of New Zealand’s innings against the West Indies, led to Southee breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.2, which pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment or fixtures. He was handed one demerit point, marking his first disciplinary infraction in a 24-month period.
Southee admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction from former Australian international David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, avoiding a formal hearing.
The charge was supported by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Alex Wharf, along with third umpire Richard Illingworth and fourth umpire Michael Gough. Level 1 breaches typically result in a reprimand, with penalties ranging up to 50% of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points.
