Meta makes $1 million donation to Trump

Meta news

Meta has confirmed a $1 million donation to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund, marking a significant shift in CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s approach to the incoming administration.

This move contrasts sharply with Zuckerberg’s previous stance, particularly during Trump’s campaign, when tensions ran high.

The donation coincides with tech leaders recalibrating their strategies in response to the Republican control of the White House and Congress, anticipating potential regulatory changes.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, despite past criticisms of Trump, extended his congratulations to the new administration.

Zuckerberg’s efforts to strengthen ties included attending a private dinner at Mar-a-Lago, where Meta executives met with key figures in Trump’s administration, such as Secretary of State nominee Senator Marco Rubio.

Tech platforms have often been criticised for promoting bias against conservative voices.

This new approach comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Meta’s role in contentious political events, including its censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story and banning Trump from Facebook following the January 6 Capitol unrest.
