A plane carrying DR Congo Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba and his delegation burst into flames after veering off the runway during landing at Kolwezi Airport, but all 29 people on board escaped unharmed, officials said.
The chartered Embraer jet, en route from Kinshasa for a visit to the Kalando copper and cobalt mine following a deadly bridge collapse, caught fire moments after coming to a stop, forcing passengers to flee without their belongings.
Footage shared online shows the aircraft engulfed in thick smoke as people ran from the wreckage.
Aviation trackers confirmed the jet was completely destroyed by the blaze. The incident follows a string of recent runway accidents in DR Congo, including a fatal military flight in August and an Air Kasai cargo plane overrun earlier this year in Tanganyika Province.
