Paris’s Louvre Museum was forced to close on Sunday after a daring robbery in which several hooded criminals reportedly stole nine priceless pieces from its Napoleonic jewellery collection.
French Culture Minister Rachida Dati confirmed the incident, saying no injuries were reported and police are investigating. According to Le Parisien, the thieves entered through a construction area, accessed the Apollo Gallery via a freight elevator, and escaped with items including a necklace, tiara, brooch, and other jewels once belonging to Napoleon and Empress Joséphine.
The museum cited “exceptional reasons” for its closure, while the famed 140-carat Regent Diamond, valued at over $60 million, was reportedly left untouched.
