Starmer slams Met Police after Linehan arrest: “Solve serious crimes”

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has slammed the Metropolitan Police after Father Ted creator Graham Linehan was arrested at Heathrow Airport by five armed officers over social media posts.

Starmer’s spokesman urged the force to focus on tackling antisocial behaviour, shoplifting, knife crime, and violence against women instead of pursuing minor online offences.

Downing Street reaffirmed the government’s “commitment to free speech”, while dismissing Elon Musk’s claim that Britain is becoming a “police state.”

Linehan, 57, said he was treated “like a terrorist” after being detained and barred from posting on X as a condition of his bail. Writing on his blog, he fumed:

“In a country where paedophiles escape sentencing, where knife crime is out of control, where women are assaulted and harassed every time they gather to speak, the state had mobilised five armed officers to arrest a comedy writer for this tweet.”

He added that the bail conditions amounted to a “legal gag order,” with a further police interview scheduled for October. Scotland Yard confirmed he was arrested under Part 3A of the Public Order Act.

  1. Starmer is a hypocrite and liar
    Deceitful
What about the multitude of people who were thrown into prison for none other than posting ‘tweets’ on social media by the thought police while rapists pedophiles and other criminals were released with reduced sentences to make room
Starmer does not have one shred of credibility in failing to address rising racial tensions that are tearing the cuntry apart and impending economic collapse

  2. “Starmer’s spokesman urged the force to focus on tackling antisocial behaviour, shoplifting, knife crime, and violence against women instead of pursuing minor online offences.”

Well whose government was it that made a good portion of free speech a crime to start with? Its like listening to an arsonist complain about the smoke and flames.
