The United States conducted its first airdrop of humanitarian aid into Gaza, delivering over 30,000 meals today through a coordinated operation with Jordan’s air force, as announced by President Joe Biden.
The initiative follows a tragic incident where at least 112 people were killed in a rush for aid from a convoy.
The airdrop is part of a broader effort to increase aid delivery to Gaza, which faces a dire humanitarian situation, through both air and land routes. Despite criticism regarding the efficiency of airdrops for delivering aid, the US plans to expand these efforts and insists on facilitating more aid through additional routes.
Amidst these developments a potential six-week ceasefire in Gaza has been discussed contingent upon specific conditions, including the release of vulnerable hostages by Hamas.
The ceasefire discussions come as the enclave grapples with significant numbers of dead and injured civilians and a looming famine in northern Gaza.
