Sinner parts ways with physio and fitness trainer after doping investigation clears him of fault

Yannik Sinner doping news

World number one Jannik Sinner has ended his professional relationship with physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi and fitness trainer Umberto Ferrara following an investigation into his positive tests for the banned steroid substance clostebol.

Sinner twice tested positive in March but was recently cleared of any fault or negligence by a tribunal, which found that Naldi had inadvertently contaminated Sinner with the substance while treating him.

The contamination occurred after Naldi applied an over-the-counter spray, provided by Ferrara, to a cut on his own hand before working on Sinner.

Despite being cleared, Sinner said he had no confidence in continuing with Naldi and Ferrara, stating that the investigation had caused him significant stress over the past months.

Although he received a provisional suspension, Sinner successfully appealed it, allowing him to continue playing and achieve his rise to world number one, winning tournaments in Halle and Cincinnati.

However, the seemingly quick resolution of his case has drawn criticism from some players who questioned the fairness and transparency of the process compared to other cases.
