Residents and holidaymakers in East Runton, Norfolk, are grappling with a severe rat infestation, with rodents described as “the size of dogs” taking over a council-run car park on Beach Road.

The fearless rats have thrived due to overgrown hedgerows, a disused drain, and overflowing bins.

Local told UK media the rodents show no fear of humans, brazenly occupying the area around the slipway and car park.

Millennium Pest Control has launched an eight-week programme, deploying 15 control boxes and advising additional preventative measures, including frequent bin emptying and habitat management.

The North Norfolk District Council has already trimmed hedges and adjusted bin collection schedules. Despite the efforts, specialists warn the infestation could persist, as ideal conditions allow a single rat pair to produce up to 1,000 offspring annually.
