Authorities have revised the timeline of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa’s, deaths after new cell phone data revealed Arakawa was alive on February 12, a day later than previously thought.
She had made multiple calls to a medical clinic that morning seeking treatment for congestion but never received care.
Arakawa was later confirmed to have died from hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, while Hackman, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, is believed to have passed on February 18 due to severe heart disease.
Experts suggest his condition may have left him unaware of his wife’s death or too confused to respond.
The couple were found in their New Mexico home on February 26, along with one of their dogs, which had died from starvation.
Their estate has since taken legal action to block the release of body camera footage from the discovery, with a hearing set for March 31.
