A 19-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving causing death following a crash near Te Kūiti in which a detached boat and trailer struck another vehicle, killing a woman and injuring four others.

The incident occurred on July 11, when the victim was travelling home with her young child after a holiday.

Police confirmed the man has been summonsed to appear in court.

The victim’s family described her as caring and full of life, saying she had been thriving and devoted to her child before the tragedy.

  1. Reminds me of a case in Christchurch in 2005
Where two young girls were killed while walking on the footpath after a trailer detached from a vehicle.
The girls, aged 12 and 13, were walking on the footpath in suburban Christchurch when a trailer carrying timber became detached from a vehicle.
The trailer veered off the road and struck them, killing both instantly.
