Hurricanes clinch top spot with dominant Highlanders win

The Hurricanes secured top place in the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific regular season with a commanding 45-28 win over the Highlanders in Wellington, guaranteeing home-field advantage throughout the finals if they continue winning.

The hosts raced to an early lead through Josh Moorby before the Highlanders were reduced to 14 men following Daniel Lienert-Brown’s red card for a high tackle on Devan Flanders. The Hurricanes capitalised with a clinical attacking display, including doubles to Kini Naholo and strong performances from Ruben Love and Ereatara Enari, helping seal their 11th win of the campaign.

Despite late resistance from the Highlanders, the result leaves the Hurricanes nine points clear atop the standings ahead of a final-round clash with the Crusaders, while the Highlanders’ season has come to an end.
