Austrian anti-immigration activist Martin Sellner says more than 120 banks have refused or closed his accounts, despite him never being charged with a crime.
After he wrote to 100 German banks seeking a single business account, 72 refused outright and 27 did not even reply. “You cannot start a business without a bank account. You cannot exist without a bank account” he wrote.
The latest rejection came from a German savings bank which turned down the account for his Institute for Remigration, a lobby group campaigning for the organised return of migrants from Europe. The bank pointed not to any offence but to Sellner’s ideas, which it claimed were unconstitutional and “disregard human dignity”. A German court upheld the refusal.
