Court rejects K-Pop group’s bid to end contract with record label

A South Korean court has ruled that leading K-pop group BlueJeans must remain under contract with its record label until 2029, dismissing the band’s attempt to terminate the agreement over claims of mistreatment and manipulation.

The ruling follows a year-long feud between the group, its label Ador, and parent company Hybe, which manages major acts like BTS and Seventeen.

The dispute, marked by allegations of harassment and power struggles, saw the artists briefly rebrand themselves before being halted by court order. The case has sparked debate in South Korea over the power balance between K-pop stars and their agencies.

  1. This is the music industry- coercion, commercialisation of innocence and natural charm leading to virtual slavery. No one dares to contradict the model or if they do speak up, instant cancellation at best, a dirty death more likely, following a protracted period of substance abuse coupled with the inevitable sexual abuse and sensational media pillorying. Our beautiful children, our taonga, are beguiled into servitude to the behemoth which turns streaming revenue into bombs, bullets and ballistics.
