Mariah Carey, one of the biggest-selling music artists in history with more than 200 million albums sold, has built an enormous personal fortune estimated at about NZ$580 million.
A major driver of that wealth is her enduring status as the “Queen of Christmas”, thanks to the perennial success of her 1994 hit All I Want for Christmas Is You.
The song alone has generated roughly NZ$100 million in royalties since its release, according to industry estimates, and continues to earn around NZ$4–5 million each year as it returns to the charts every festive season.
Those figures do not include additional income from Christmas-themed tours, merchandise, television specials, books and films linked to the song.
Its popularity shows no sign of fading, with the track becoming the first holiday song to surpass two billion streams on Spotify last year.
