A Chilean office worker has won a court case against his former employer, Dan Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos de Chile, after being mistakenly paid £127,000—over 300 times his usual £386 monthly wage.
The 2022 payroll error led to legal action when the employee resigned days later instead of returning the funds.
Accused of theft, he faced potential jail time, but a Santiago judge ruled the case as an “unauthorised collection,” not a criminal offence.
The civil court later acquitted him without requiring repayment, though the company plans to appeal.
