ACT calls for ‘irrelevant’ and ‘dangerous’ Human Rights Commission to be abolished

Human Rights Commission news

“Chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt’s comments [yesterday] morning about white supremacy and co-governance show he is unfit for office and reinforce the need to abolish the left-wing Human Rights Commission”, says ACT Leader David Seymour.

“Hunt’s claim that ‘white supremacy and institutional racism [are] woven into the fabric’ of New Zealand is untrue, needlessly divisive, and does more harm than good.

“Hunt also appears to believe co-governance is a human right promised by the Treaty. Article Three of the Treaty promises equal rights and duties.

“The Commission is a hard-left organisation masquerading as a government department.

“It has been undermining free speech, cuddling criminals, demanding more redistribution, and pushing divisive co-governance.

“It’s time to shut it down.

“The Commission’s highly political manifesto in 2020 called for a new hate speech law, a living wage, raising benefits by 47 percent, “fair pay” agreements, more government departments, two new human rights commissioners, and another public holiday, among a raft of other policies.

“It is no longer interested in helping real people with actual human rights issues, but simply advancing a left-wing agenda.

“When electorate MPs go to the Commission and ask it to help with constituents, it runs for the hills.

“ACT would keep the Human Rights Review Tribunal and beef it up. The HRRT is charged with helping people on a case-by-case basis when their actual rights are practically affected, not pontificating about what other people’s rights should be. In my experience as a local MP, the HRRT has been underfunded.

“If the Paul Hunts of the world want to be in politics, they should try to getting elected. I’d love to see him try. In the meantime, the Human Rights Commission needs to go, replaced by a beefed up Human Rights Review Tribunal to help actual people affected by rights violations.

“Whenever there’s a political issue, the Commission is eager to insert itself into the debate. The previous Human Rights Commissioner, Susan Devoy, waded into public debates that were completely outside her role. Paula Tesoriero, the former Disability Rights Commissioner, conducted herself on the End of Life Choice Act in the most unprofessional way.

“The Commission has become irrelevant and even dangerous. It has become a highly-politicised, left-wing organisation, and when it comes to actually helping people with human rights, it doesn’t help at all.

“ACT sees no purpose for it and would abolish it completely.”

  1. I’m no fan of the left wing zealots (not by a long shot), but ACT had their moment at the cross roads.

They chose to support the mandates, the passports and the surveillance apps.

Any whinging they do now about “human rights” and “social division” is dripping with sanctimonious hypocrisy. Bunch of fakes. Piss off.

    • Yes indeed.

David Seymour had his chance and completely and utterly blew it. His appalling unethical covid jab zealotry was truly disgraceful.

As far as I’m concerned, Mr Seymour has permanently disqualified himself from holding any credible opinions on human rights.

  2. Many people say unpleasant things. Governments responsibility is to provide a PHYSICALLY safe environment, not dictate what people can and cannot say.

  3. David Seymour rode around his constituency on a bike to be at one with the plebs. Said he had no property until he suddenly had shares in a Trust that owned three. Missing in action during the mandates, went along with Labour and National. Was not seen out speaking to the Freedom people camping on parliament grounds. Now suddenly it’s all about our Rights? He is a little reptile.
Anybody who trusts this man is a fool.

    • Don’t forget Seymour’s stalling for time with a reporter when it came to a firearms vote where he was…as usual…missing in action on the House Floor!
One of the greatest tools to protect human rights are the commissions and councils which do just that.
The fact that Seymour (who represents a closet constituency that are Zionists) is calling to abolish the same is similar to the Israelis ignoring the plight of the Palestinians for the last 75 years, while assassinating journalists covering these human rights violations and aggressions by Israel.
My vote this year goes to the Outdoors and Freedom Party, which was the ONLY Political Party to confront the Covid bio-weapon vaccines, and which will restore the right to semi-auto firearms and inplement the ‘Stand Your Ground / Castle Laws which have been very effective at stopping violent crime.
We have that right already under the UN Charter that New Zealand signed on to, under the UN Right to Self-Defence, Chapter 7, Article 51 which the NEW ZEALAND POLICE AND GOVERNMENT OVERALL CHOOSES TO IGNORE!
I hope that Liz Gunn will enter politics sooner rather than later, and serve alongside Sue Grey of the O&FP.
Seymour was an embarrassment to New Zealand on ‘Dancing With The (morons) Stars’, and I wonder if he would be better off playing with his dreadle…!

  4. Wow!!! just look at you going all nuclear on the left!!!! There is nothing like an upcoming election to cure your political muteness, to wield those tongues and call out the commission, virtue signal to the nation, Not because you care, but because you are all desperate for the POWER, all desperate to RULE, all desperate to ENSLAVE. Be honest Seymour you want none of us to have any rights at all, human or otherwise.

  5. Hmmm didn’t have a lot to say supporting those brave Kiwi’s who protested our loss of human right during the CONVID scamdemic did you ACT.

This comes across as cynical voter virtue signalling and little else. Still not giving you my vote again….get lost…..

  6. Mr Hunt is clearly just another useless ‘woke’ virtue signalling nitwit who should indeed be fired at the first opportunity.

David Seymour unfortunately is also entirely unfit for purpose. His disgraceful support for jab mandates permanently disqualifies him from ever getting anywhere near my vote.

I’ll never forget or forgive what these unscrupulous spineless unethical scumbags did.

    • Yep exactly. Seymour supported jab mandates, jab passports and medical apartheid, but now has the nerve to criticise our brainless twonk of a Humans Rights Commissioner.

Breaking News: Pot calls the kettle black, or is that racist?

Kettle accuses pot of white supremacy. Phew that’s better!

  7. David Seymour wasn’t there for New Zealanders when we were in need. He hung out with the WEF puppets, his signature is alongside the WEF puppets to pledge no communication with protesters. If it looks like sh!+ tastes like sh!+ must be sh!+. David Seymour can stick his agenda laden rhetoric where the sun don’t shine
