Australia has barred one citizen linked to the Islamic State group from returning for up to two years, following advice from security agencies, while 33 other Australian women and children stranded after being turned back from leaving a Syrian camp were not deemed to meet the legal threshold for similar bans.
The group, largely made up of wives, widows and children of IS fighters, has not been offered government assistance to return, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stressing personal responsibility for those who travelled to join extremist causes.
Legal experts argue Australia still has obligations to allow citizens to return, while opposition figures question why only one individual is considered a security risk.
The group remains among thousands of foreign nationals held in Syrian camps since the collapse of IS territory in 2019, where concerns persist about poor living conditions and the radicalisation risk facing children growing up in the camps.

After World War Two, many Nazis underwent De-Nazification hearings to insure that Nazism was no longer a focus with those individuals.
The same de-programming can be and should be applied to the one woman who was caught-up in the ISIS Camp, and de-briefed by intelligence agencies.
Would De-Nazification? if it even worked in Germany, it would only work if you did it on a National scale where everyone is exposed to it all of the time, how would you be able to do it to one person? you would have to isolate them, ie detain them.
The simple answer is to de-nationalize them, leave them there, change the law and open the gate to being able to de-nationalize anyone, politicians included.
