Dutton fails to secure majority as early vote count shows swing to Labor

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton will be unable to form a majority government in Australia’s 48th Parliament, with early vote counts showing a swing to Labor and signs of trouble in his own seat of Dickson.

Sky News election analyst Tom Connell declared the Coalition’s path to victory was closing fast, with just eight per cent of votes counted but trends already favouring Labor.

Although some correction is expected with pre-poll votes, Connell noted a lack of positive momentum for the Coalition across key electorates.

More to follow.
