Ghahraman convicted and fined for shoplifting, discharge application declined

Golriz Ghahraman news

Former Green Party MPGolriz Ghahraman has been convicted of shoplifting and fined $1600, along with $260 in court costs, following her guilty pleas to four shoplifting charges in Auckland and Wellington boutique stores.

In the Auckland District Court this afternoon Judge June Jelas highlighted Ghahraman’s remorse, repayment of the stolen items, and her clean record as a first-time offender as reasons for not imposing imprisonment. The sentencing, initially delayed, concluded on Thursday with no custodial sentence. Ghahraman’s application for a discharge without conviction was declined.

Ghahraman, who resigned as an MP when the allegations surfaced, explained her actions as a form of ‘self-sabotage’ to escape politics.

In an interview with state broadcaster TVNZ, she regretted not addressing her need to leave politics in a healthier way.

Ghahraman revealed she has been undergoing intensive therapy and received support from figures like comedian Mike King and Speaker of the House Gerry Brownlee.

She also discussed the need for better support systems within the Green Party for MPs in distress. Reflecting on her political journey, Ghahraman expressed disillusionment, stating she wouldn’t enter politics again if given the chance, feeling the challenges outweighed the achievements.

  1. “….better support systems within the Green Party for MPs in distress…”
    Maybe a decent education, teachings in critical thinking, knowledge of real history, refusal of parasitic reliance on socialist constructs, and -on top of it all- humanistic societal background and core-family upbringing?
    Yeah right!

    • This is the cognitive dysfunction that the prions on the brain tissue are doing due to the Covid Vaccines!

  2. The Green Party knew what was going on. The owner of the Ponsonby store’s husband said Green Party officials & that deodorant shy Auckland Central MP Swarbrick were running interference for the thief an visiting the shop to plead that the owner & staff keep everything confidential and away from the corrupt legacy media. The Green Party were the ones that bundled thief lawyer for mass human genocide perpetrators was exited out of New Zealand on 27 Dec, 2023. They knew everything and tried to sweep it all under the carpet. The Green Party in NZ is not fit for purpose and their representatives should be kicked out of parliament & banished forever.

    Yeah. Sure. Whenever I want ‘out’ of something, I go out and heist stuff. Cheap. Wee. THIEF. Avoid.

  4. The last paragraph of the article speaks volumes and contributes to;
    1. Being selectively unemployed to minimise or erase the work-to-gain imbalances;
    2. No matter what you do in NZ society, you will probably come up short, scammed or cheated with the help of an unscrupulous legal system that favours the exploiter / criminal;
    I’m a Combat Veteran with PTSD, and I have never stolen retail items or abused substances as an excuse for my service to New Zealand that led to my condition.

  5. The Moonenites from Aqua Teen Hunger Force have decided that she needs a Moon Rock Spanking! (Parody)
    Imagine what the punishment would have been IF this had happened in her native Sharia Law country of Iran!
    Why not just resign, instead of stealing garments…?
