Maiki Sherman has resigned from TVNZ, saying her role had become “untenable” following intense scrutiny in recent weeks.
Sherman confirmed Friday was her final day at the broadcaster after a week marked by controversy, including a five-day suspension from Parliament over an aggressive pursuit of National MP Stuart Smith and renewed attention on a homophobic slur she directed at Stuff journalist Lloyd Burr during a pre-Budget function last year.
Sherman acknowledged the offensive remark, apologised for her conduct, and said it followed “deeply personal and inappropriate” comments made toward her.
TVNZ praised her contribution to political journalism, highlighting her election coverage, poll presentations, and Beehive reporting, while senior executive Nadia Tolich said the broadcaster respected Sherman’s decision to step down.
TVNZ won’t learn any lesson from this; they’ll appoint someone else on the Far Left to replace her.
“Stuff journalist…”
Yet more evidence that he was probably acting like one when she called him one.
