Over 5,000 senior doctors strike nationwide over pay and staffing crisis

Doctor strike 2025 news

More than 5,000 senior doctors and specialists across the country launched a 24-hour strike over stalled pay negotiations, highlighting dire workforce shortages and poor recruitment due to uncompetitive salaries.

Health NZ defended its offer as fair, citing budget constraints, but doctors say chronic underinvestment has led to dangerous conditions, cancelled surgeries, and excessive reliance on temporary staff.

Union leaders stressed the action was about saving a collapsing public health system, not just pay.

  1. NZH are punishing by steadfastly refusing to re-hire any nursing staff who lost their job due to COVID vaccine mandates.

Instead NZH are instead hiring overseas nurses from India and Asia who are making doctor’s work more difficult through miscommunication etc and actions out of step with NZ culture.

  2. NZ public have lost faith and trust in doctors. Mum’s and Dad’s are saying no-thank-you to childhood vaccines. Ask your doctor to list amy 3 ingredients when they recommend a vaccine. They don’t like you questioning or being self informed. Doctors consultation disrespect is palpable. Emotions are high. Is what happens when the social contract is broken. Same for you Pharmacists. Go bit me.

  3. So, now those doctors who blatantly violated human rights, their medical ethics etc., because the government told them to ‘to accommodate the roll-out’ are now protesting that same govt’s mistreatment of them? And here I was, all the while, thinking ‘doctors are the smartest’…

    • Spot on Sarah. If those remaining in the medical and nursing professions had not been such cowards in accepting the tyrant’s mandates then the health system would be in better shape and still employing all those doctors and nurses that were let go because they wouldn’t take (we now know) a bioweapon.
