Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot during a speech at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, prompting a campus lockdown and major police response.
Authorities confirmed a person of interest is now in custody as the FBI and state officials investigate.
Graphic video captured the moment a single gunshot struck Kirk about 20 minutes into his address, causing widespread panic among the 1,400 attendees.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the assassination, warning of severe consequences, including the possibility of the death penalty.
Classes were cancelled, roads closed, and a shelter-in-place order enforced as law enforcement searched the area and escorted students and staff to safety.
