Police Commissioner Chambers releases statement following McSkimming resignation

Full statement of Police Commissioner Richard Chambers released this evening.

I appreciate the resignation of Jevon McSkimming raises questions, but the criminal investigation cannot be compromised by commenting on the circumstances of it at this point.

However, I can say that I have always made it very clear that trust and confidence in Police is a top priority for me as Commissioner.

I have also made clear that I expect leadership to be accountable. The public and my Police colleagues can rest assured that very much remains the case.

I take very seriously anything that puts trust and confidence and the reputation of Police at risk and will act to address it.

I have high expectations of all police staff and will address it if those standards are not met, irrespective of rank or role.

This is not just about my own views and expectations. It is the standard the public and the Police deserve.

  1. What.a nice speech form the commissioner of police. However if trust and confidence in the police is a top priority I wonder how the police expect that to happern when they do not investigate the excess deaths detailed in Barry Young’s official government report.

When the police attacked sleeping men, women and children on parliament grounds, how does that create trust and confidence?

Even a 10 year old understands deception and lies.

How patheticly stupid to think the New Zealand public are that gullible.

  2. Gosh, it only took 4 months since McSkimming was stood down, and a whole lot of public backlash for the NZ Police Commissioner to release a statement.

A poor overpersonalized PR job it is too.

Wonder if he’s holding his tongue in his cheek, hoping all this will slip from the NZ public consciousness so he doesn’t have to explain how a corruptible reprobate was able to rise through the highest ranks undetected! Or was he?

  3. So a big nothing burger, so far…..shame they don’t get this bothered, when people are assaulted or shot by cops…..something that happens all too often here and without proportionate consequences……
