Reddit has launched a legal challenge in Australia’s High Court against new laws requiring social media platforms to block users under the age of 16, arguing the policy raises serious privacy and constitutional concerns.
The legislation, which took effect this week, applies to at least 10 platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok, and is the strictest of its kind globally, allowing no parental consent exemptions.
While Reddit says it is complying with the ban, it contends the law forces intrusive age-verification processes on all users, restricts young people’s ability to engage in lawful online communities, and creates inconsistent rules across platforms.
The case follows a separate High Court challenge brought by two Australian teenagers who argue the ban breaches implied freedoms of political communication.
The government has defended the policy as necessary to protect children from harmful content and algorithms, dismissing legal challenges as pressure from “big tech.”
Although widely supported by parents and some international figures, critics warn the ban may be easily circumvented, push young people toward less regulated online spaces, and limit connection for vulnerable groups.
It’s an absurdly obvious Trojan horse for a license to use the Internet. They want you always online for everything, but also want you surveiled every step of the way.

Social media companies to banking institutions will either need to develop their own expensive service; or via the Hegalian Dialectic of Problem-Reaction-Solution, subscribe to a private tech firm specializing in ID.

It’s a breach of everyone’s rights and freedom to speak.
This is the creepy Australian Labor parties first steps towards Digital ID’s, agenda 2030 style, because, of course, now everyone will need to provide some form of identification, to use these platforms.Texas has also done something very similar. Where’s the so called administration of free speech and expression under Trump on this? Why no federal legislation, to curtail all this disturbing, dystopian ugliness, slowly creeping into the USA, a state at a time?
