Preliminary results released for Tāmaki Makaurau by-election

The Electoral Commission has released preliminary results for the 6 September 2025 Tāmaki Makaurau parliamentary by-election.

Oriini Kaipara (Te Pāti Māori) received 6,031 votes, Peeni Henare (Labour) 3,093, Hannah Tamaki (Vision New Zealand) 146, Sherry Lee Matene (Independent) 31, and Kelvyn Alp (New Zealand Loyal) 23.

There were 53 informal votes, making a total of 9,377 counted on election night. An estimated 2,621 special votes remain to be counted, bringing the projected total to 11,998. Voter turnout is estimated at 27.1% of the 44,269 enrolled.

Official results are expected on 17 September 2025 after the recount and inclusion of special votes.
