South Korea’s impeached former president Yoon Suk Yeol has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of leading an insurrection through his December 2024 declaration of martial law, a move swiftly overturned by parliament that triggered months of political unrest and mass protests.

Already serving a five-year sentence for separate convictions including abuse of power and obstruction of justice, Yoon’s actions deepened divisions within the country, with supporters and opponents staging rival demonstrations outside the Seoul court.

Prosecutors argued the martial law order was driven by escalating political pressure and personal scandals rather than genuine national security threats, despite Yoon’s claims that opposition forces were attempting to undermine South Korea’s democracy.

These corrupt NZ politicians should be jailed for life and the billions they stole off NZ taxpayers returned.

Or NZ academics could join together and speak up.

I know, you know, nz politcian’s tax money laundering schemes (like the ill advised $1b LNG terminal, the $48m grant to a kapahaka tournament which already makes a profit, public sector workers relatives businesses receiving multi million dollar government contracts, etc.) are funnelling billions of our taxes into politicians back pockets.

Politicians are so keen on hiding their crimes they are making blog sites like breaking views quarantine comments revealing their crimes!
