Police have arrested three youths following a rapid response to an aggravated robbery in Hamilton early this morning.
Officers were called to Mill Street at about 6.40am after reports of a robbery involving a stolen vehicle. No one was injured during the incident, but the offenders fled with two cash tills and other items.
Hamilton City Area Commander Inspector Neil Faulkner said Police acted quickly on prior information that several stolen vehicles had been abandoned on nearby Horne Street. Officers began enquiries in the area and conducted a door knock at a property of interest, where they detected a strong smell of cannabis.
A subsequent search uncovered items linked to the robbery, including the stolen cash tills and clothing allegedly worn during the offence. A firearm was also located at the address and seized.
Faulkner praised the swift actions of officers, saying the three youths were located and arrested within half an hour of the robbery being reported. The youths are expected to appear in Youth Court in the coming days. Police are urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity to contact emergency services immediately.
