Auckland City Police say three liquor stores have failed compliance checks after selling alcohol to minors during a recent enforcement operation across the city.
The joint Controlled Purchase Operation tested more than 30 suburban licensed premises for adherence to the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012 and was carried out over the past three weeks by Police, Auckland Council licensing inspectors and the Auckland City Alcohol Harm Prevention Unit.
Sergeant Michael Haydon said 36 sites were tested, with three failing to meet basic legal requirements, including checking identification and correctly verifying a purchaser’s age. Police and Auckland Council will now refer the non-compliant stores to the Alcohol Regulatory Licensing Authority for further action.
Haydon noted that 33 premises were fully compliant and said controlled purchase operations will continue nationwide. Police are encouraging the public to report concerns about alcohol sales to minors via 105 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
