Australia completed a 4–1 Ashes series victory after overcoming a tense run chase to defeat England by five wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground, successfully chasing a target of 160.
After appearing in control early, Australia stumbled to lose five wickets for 59 runs, but Alex Carey and Cameron Green steadied the innings with a decisive 40-run partnership to finish the job.
England applied late pressure through Josh Tongue, who took 3 for 42, but were hampered by Ben Stokes’ inability to bowl due to injury. Earlier, England were bowled out with a lead of 155 after Mitchell Starc claimed his 30th wicket of the series, later being named Player of the Series with 31 wickets overall.
Despite flashes of resistance, including a strong contribution from Jacob Bethell, England were unable to force a dramatic finish, as Australia’s experience and key performances across the series proved decisive.
